Pilot Schools
New for 25/26 - the ELFS Core eLibrary project
For the 25/26 school year, we are trialling an eLibrary shared across a set of partner schools from all parts of the UK.
This shared ‘Core library’ has books aimed at children in years 5 and 6 (P6 and P7 in Scotland). As we raise more funding we will extend the range of books offered. We’ve already raised significant funds for the first phase of the Core library and so schools will be able to participate in this shared project at no cost to them.
You can see the books that our pilot schools can borrow from our Core library here.
Our pilot scheme is currently full, but as we succeed in raising funding we will be able to add more ebooks to our core elibrary and bring on board more schools. If you would like to become a pilot school and take part in this programme please get in touch at: info@elibrariesforschools.org.
Pilot Primary Schools
Dairsie Primary, Cupar, Fife
Our first pilot is now running at Dairsie Primary School in Fife. Dairsie is a small village school with classes that cross year groups and has a particular interest in promoting a reading for pleasure culture. In 2023 we worked with them selecting ebooks for their elibrary that meet the interests of their pupils. Their bespoke elibrary launched winter term 2024, and since autumn 2025, they also have access to the books in the ELFS core elibrary. All books available to Dairsie can be seen here. Funding for the Dairsie only ebooks has been generously provided by St Andrews University from their Community Fund.
Forsbrook Primary, Staffordshire
Forsbrook is a mixed voluntary controlled school based in Staffordshire. It has a single form entry and takes children from age 4 to 11 years. Their years 5 and 6 are piloting the ELFS core elibrary, which launched winter term 2025 and can be seen here.Â
Yardley Wood Primary, Birmingham
Yardley Wood is a mixed community school based in Birmingham. It has two form entry and takes children from age 3 to 11 years. Their years 5 and 6 are piloting our core elibrary, which launched winter term 2025 and can be seen here.Â
Ysgol Y Plas, Llanelian
Ysgol Y Plas is a small Church in Wales Voluntary aided primary school in the heart of its village community. The school has limited physical library space and budget. They are looking for a digital library to give their pupils immediate access to a wide library of genres, diverse characters and up-to-date texts. They believe choice is a key driver of reading engagement, and an eLibrary expands the choices available. They see a digital library encouraging children to explore books independently, aligning with their Big Read day and reading-for-pleasure ethos.Â
Barrassie Primary, South Ayrshire
Barassie is a state school with around 200 pupils. Three years ago the school made a big investment in their school library and in promoting reading for pleasure. They have succeeded in turning around reading attitudes in the school and are keen to maintain momentum, but don’t have the funds to replace lost books or to buy the next in the series or a favourite  author’s new release. In addition to massively increasing the books they can offer their children, they see ebooks as another way to engage readers, especially the reluctant ones or those who are very used to looking to screens for entertainment. Their local library offers Libby but it is too difficult to organise at school level.
Trinity Primary, Henley-on-Thames
Trinity is a state primary in Henley with a single form entry. They believe that reading is the key to unlocking a child’s future, providing the power to access a world beyond their existing experiences. Trinity have a set of ‘Reading Journey’ books that they would like their pupils to access, but many of these have been lost from the library or damaged over time. They are looking to add these ebooks to their own ebook library through ELFS.
Woodlands Primary, Ealing
Woodlands is a state primary school in Ealing. They wish to use the ELFS core elibrary to promote reading for pleasure and particularly to encourage empathy amongst children with different capabilities.Â
Sandhill Primary, Barnsley
Sandhill is is a village primary school in Great Houghton, Barnsley which is part of the Every Child Matters Multi Academy Trust. They have a mission to to develop children who enjoy reading and who will read a lot of books during their time at the school and thereafter. They see the ELFS core elibrary as helping them promote reading for pleasure around the core topics taught within the school, and in engaging reluctant readers.
Hugh Gaitskill Primary, Leeds
High Gaitskill is a large three form entry primary school in Leeds. They are looking to use the ELFS core elibrary to promote reading for pleasure amongst a subset of pupils.
